Nanting Village
Nanting Village is located in the eastern part of Dehua County, 33 kilometers from Dehua County town. It sits at the foot of Tianping City (the historical site of Su Shiwàn’s resistance against the Yuan Dynasty) and at the confluence of Taixian Stream and Qinxi Stream. “Green trees cluster by the village edge, blue hills rim the suburbs from afar.” The area boasts beautiful mountains and clear waters, a mild climate, convenient transportation, and extremely rich tourism resources. Taixian Stream flows right through the village. Quanzhou’s only national-level forest park, Shiniu Mountain National Forest Park (which is also a national geopark), has forest resources spanning 110,000 mu, 70,000 mu of which lie within Nanting Town, including 17,000 mu in Nanting Village itself.
The area features abundant natural and cultural landscapes, including Peach Blossom Island, Taixian Stream, Shilong Stream, a 10,000-mu subtropical vine botanical garden, Dazhou Palace, and waterfall clusters. A variety of eco-tourism projects have been developed, such as the Peach Blossom Island Agricultural Sightseeing Garden, bamboo raft drifting on Taixian Stream, kayak rafting on Shilong Stream, archaeological exploration of Su Shiwàn’s anti-Yuan resistance site, and Tadou Hot Springs. In September 2006, Nanting Village stood out among 24 participating sites in the city and was honored as one of the first “Top Ten Charming Villages in Quanzhou” with high scores.
A Delightful Balance of Activity and Tranquility: Drifting Amidst Scenic Mountains and Waters
Shilong Stream in Nanting Village stretches 12 kilometers, with dense virgin forests throughout its basin and crystal-clear mountain stream water, earning it the reputation of being the “Jiuzhaigou of Central Fujian.” Experts praise this rafting section for having “three superlatives”: the most beautiful ecological environment, the clearest water flow, and the most thrilling rafting experience. The stream is fast-flowing with significant drops, featuring 69 bends and 88 rapids, with a total drop of 36 meters. It’s a rare natural rafting course rich in ecotourism resources. The Shilong Stream kayak rafting trip covers 5 kilometers and takes just over 2 hours. At times, the water is calm and you can drift freely with the paddle resting, enjoying the panoramic view of surrounding mountains, vast bamboo forests, fish and shrimp playing in the water—fully immersing yourself in the poetic scene of “floating on clear waves, as if traveling in a painting.” Other times, the waves are turbulent, the kayak bounces violently, swaying left and right with the current, bobbing up and down, churning up waves—you can only grip the kayak tightly, let out a thrilled scream, or laugh together if you fall into the water. The icy stream water rushes into the kayak, soaking you and bringing a refreshing coolness amid the summer heat.
Nanting Village Shuangqin Stream Greenway.jpg Praised as the “No.1 Rafting Trip in Central Fujian,” the Taixian Stream bamboo rafting trip spans nearly 7 kilometers and takes about an hour and a half. Drifting downstream from the upper reaches of Taixian Stream, you can feel the enthusiasm of the green waters while admiring the beautiful scenery along the way, often spotting elegant scenes such as lines of egrets and wild ducks playing in the water. The gentle bamboo rafts float atop shimmering waves, offering sweeping views of the unified beauty of water and sky. The village also hosts a vital part of Shiniu Mountain National Forest Park—the 10,000-mu subtropical vine botanical garden—which includes not only evergreen broad-leaved forests, maple trees, and pines but also rare species such as yew and Alsophila. Many rare wild animals like pangolins, pythons, and leopards inhabit the area. Nanting Village also has attractions like Longtan Waterfall and Bulaoji Waterfall.
Romantic Vibes: Admire Peach Blossoms Here in March
A 10-minute walk from the town government leads to Peach Blossom Island. A bamboo and wood pontoon bridge, about ten meters wide, crosses the stream to the island. The swaying bridge adds a rustic charm to the walk. The island is serene and beautiful, with ancient trees lining the mountain side of Taixian Stream, and lush, verdant forests covering the opposite hillside. “I’m here waiting for you to come back, waiting for you to come back and see the peach blossoms bloom…” The island is home to nearly 10,000 peach trees. Every year from March to April, when the peach blossoms are in full bloom, the scenery is enchanting, making visitors feel as though they’ve entered a fairyland.
Strolling through the peach groves adds a touch of magic to the experience. Friends in small groups or families on spring outings can immerse themselves in the fragrant blossoms while enjoying the romantic vibes of spring. You can sit on the ground under the peach trees, sip a glass of local peach wine, and relive the spirit of Tao Yuanming; or you can try your hand at turning the soil, fertilizing, and watering the peach trees for a taste of life as a peach farmer.

Nanting Village also features cultural relics from the Song and Yuan dynasties, offering opportunities to reflect on history while enjoying the natural scenery. There’s an 850-meter-high peak in the village—Tianping City, the only remaining ancient fortress site in Dehua County. On its roughly 1,200-meter-long and 90-meter-wide summit, three fortresses were built. Anti-Yuan hero Su Shiwàn and anti-Qing general Lin Zhong once stationed troops here. Historical sites such as Liding Fort and Diaoding Fort have been developed, with Liding Fort still preserving remnants such as the fortress gate, barracks foundations, and sections of earthen walls. The Dazhou Palace on Peach Blossom Island was built in honor of Su Shiwàn, the Southern Song Dynasty hero known as “Su Lie Wuwang,” and remains a popular site with thriving incense offerings. Behind the palace stand two ancient camphor trees, locally referred to as the “Lover Trees.” The larger one has a diameter of 3.5 meters, stands over 30 meters tall, and the smaller reaches around 25 meters. These two trees have stood together for over 200 years and remain lush and green. A cool breeze blows beneath them, where chickens and ducks stroll leisurely.
Resting and cooling off under the camphor trees, listening to an authentic mountain song or pipa and Nanyin music with its lingering melodies offers a uniquely delightful experience. Far from the hustle and bustle of the world, it feels like stepping into a heavenly paradise. Additionally, Nanting Village is well-known for its folk mountain songs. Local specialties such as spiny eel, free-range chicken, stream fish, as well as lingzhi mushrooms, dried shiitake, dried bamboo shoots, dried plums, peaches, and Dehua pears are highly favored by visitors from all over.
