Former Site of the Dehua County Communist Party of China Branch

The former site of the Dehua County Communist Party of China Branch is a classic red tourism destination and a base for patriotic education.

The former site of the Dehua County Communist Party of China Branch is located at Baowei Hall in Dingqian Village, Longxun Town, Dehua County.

In the early years, Dingqian Village was a small settlement in the southwestern corner of Dehua County. During the First Great Revolution, due to its economic backwardness and unique geographical location, it became the site where the first CPC branch in Dehua County was established and an important hub for the Party’s activities.

In July 1926, the Nationalist Government in Guangzhou issued the “Northern Expedition Declaration” in a bid to end the rule of the Northern Warlords. Thereafter, He Yingqin led the Eastern Route Army of the National Revolutionary Army in plans to enter Fujian. Tang Sheng and his wife, who had secretly joined the Communist Party of China in Guangzhou, returned to Xiamen that autumn. Assigned by the Xiamen General Branch Committee of the CPC, they went to Dehua under the pretext of seeking treatment from a martial arts bone-setter. They stayed at Zheng Xingui’s dye shop, “Ji Ji,” located behind Tayan Street in Chengguan, using the cover of assisting with bookkeeping and shop work to covertly carry out revolutionary activities. Over time, they developed a close bond with Zheng Xingui, subtly instilling revolutionary ideas in him. Later, Tang Sheng also befriended Zhang Shunyue, a farmer from Dingqian Village, gradually growing close and eventually staying at Zhang’s home, where he received care and support. As Tang Sheng familiarized himself with the local conditions, he either held secret meetings or disguised himself to conduct outreach, actively carrying out covert revolutionary activities in the Dingqian area. He successively recruited a number of communists, including Zhang Shunyue and Zheng Xingui. Due to operational needs, after over a month in Dehua, Tang Sheng returned to Quanzhou before later teaming up with Zhuang Yangshan to resume work in Dehua.

In January 1927, the first communist organization in Dehua County—the Dehua County Communist Party Branch—was established in Dingqian Village. The branch was headed by Zhuang Xingmin, who was dispatched by the Minnan Provincial Committee (Special Committee) of the CPC. It consisted of seven members: Zhuang Xingmin, Tang Sheng, Zhuang Yangshan (female, Taiwanese), Zhang Shunyue, Su Xingli, Lin Shuzuo, and Zheng Xingui. The establishment of the Dehua County Communist Party Branch marked a new chapter in the county’s revolutionary struggle.

On July 1, 2004, the Exhibition Room of the Dehua County Communist Party Branch, located near Baowei Hall in Dingqian Village, was officially opened and designated as a patriotic education base in Dehua County.

The content of the Dehua County Communist Party Branch Exhibition Room is divided into two parts: the first section showcases the process of establishing the branch, while the second highlights the revolutionary activities carried out by the people of Dehua under the leadership of the Party.

Dingqian Village: Dingqian Village

Dingqian is located in the southern part of Longxun Town, bordering Baomei Village to the east, Gaoyang and Daban to the south, Dingxi and Yingshan to the west, and connecting to Huchianmen Neighborhood Committee to the north. The village includes residents with surnames such as Chen, Huang, Zhang, Li, and Xu. By the end of 1999, it had 1,240 households and 4,720 residents, organized into 20 villager groups, with 62 CPC members residing in natural villages such as Dayang, Xiatai, Debei, Bishi, Luochangyang, Puiweiyan, Moyuan, and Shan Zhupo.
