Christianity was introduced to China in the ninth year of the Zhenguan era during the Tang Dynasty (635 AD), and subsequently spread to Quanzhou, where it was then known as "Jingjiao," and during the Yuan Dynasty as "Yelikewenjiao." By the seventh year of the Yuandade era (1306 AD), there was already a Christian church in Quanzhou, known as "Xingming Temple." Modern Christianity was introduced to Anhai Town in Jinjiang during the sixth year of the Xianfeng era in the Qing Dynasty (1856 AD), and the following year it spread to Quanzhou, where it was formally established in the second year of the Tongzhi era (1863 AD). The Quanzhou Christian South Church is located at No. 374 Zhongshan Middle Road, Quanzhou City. It was established in the third year of the Tongzhi era (1863 AD), covering an area of 1,810 square meters. The church has long served as the city’s center for Christian activities and is the location of the Quanzhou Christian Council and Three-Self Patriotic Movement Committee.
