Grove of Bamboo by the Small Hill

Grove of Bamboo by the Small Hill is located in Licheng District and is an important historical and cultural site in Quanzhou. It originally housed the Temple of Ouyang Zhan, a scholar from the Min region, and during the Song Dynasty, it was where Zhu Xi came to Quanzhou to lecture on the classics. Master Hongyi also preached here and passed away in the “Evening Glow Chamber” within this site. The surviving structures include a Song Dynasty stone memorial archway inscribed with Zhu Xi’s calligraphy “Grove of Bamboo by the Small Hill” and the “Evening Glow Chamber” of Master Hongyi.
