Muxi Jueyuan

Muxi Jueyuan is located at Dingpu in the northern part of the city. In 1937, Venerable Guangjing purchased land at Zaoyuan to build a retreat for his great-grandteacher, Venerable Zhuanyan, who had retired from Kaiyuan Temple. The calligrapher Master Hongyi inscribed the plaque “Muxi Jueyuan.” Overseas Chinese monk Venerable Guangjing twice funded major renovations and expansions in 1987 and 1993, completing a double-eaved main hall and recasting the Buddha statues in gold.

The entire Muxi Jueyuan complex consists of the main hall, side wings, monks’ quarters, dining hall, temple gate, courtyard, mountain gate, and enclosing walls, covering an area of over one thousand square meters, making it a grand-scale structure. The main hall is a two-courtyard, five-bay, double-eaved, hip-and-gable roofed building made of stone and wood, exuding extraordinary grandeur, and houses the Three Ages of Buddhas. On both sides of the main hall are two-story buildings, simple and elegant, serving as side wings, monks’ quarters, and the dining hall. In front of the main hall lies a flagstone-paved courtyard, complemented by a single-eaved temple gate, giving the entire temple a square-shaped layout.

In front of the temple is also a large flagstone-paved courtyard spanning over six hundred square meters, adorned with flowers, plants, stone pagodas, and a pond, adding a unique charm. At the very front stands a majestic stone-built mountain gate, accompanied by stone walls, further enhancing its grandeur.

Today, the entire temple complex is solemn and magnificent, with enhanced scenery and cultural significance, surpassing its former glory.
