Cai Qing’s Former Residence

The Former Residence of Cai Qing is a cultural heritage site protected by Quanzhou City.

The Former Residence of Cai Qing is located at No. 24 Xiaogan Lane, West Street, Quanzhou City, and was designated as a municipal cultural heritage site in January 1983. Originally the residence of Cai Qing, the Vice Education Commissioner of Jiangxi Province during the Zhengde era of the Ming Dynasty (1506–1521), it was converted into the Cai Wenzhuang Ancestral Hall in the fourth year of the Longqing era (1570) and was renovated in the 30th year of the Daoguang era (1850). The residence faces south and features a width and depth of five bays each, with a flush-gable roof and a post-and-lintel wooden frame. A stone stele inscribed with the “Preface to the Renovation of the Wenzhuang Ancestral Hall Behind the Great Temple in Quanzhou Prefecture,” dated the seventh year of the Xianfeng era (1857), is embedded in the eastern wall. In 1986, the municipal government allocated funds for its renovation.
