Hidden Revolutionary Base in Longling

The Hidden Revolutionary Base in Longling is a classic red tourism destination and a patriotic education base.

The ancestral home of Fu Shi at the Hidden Revolutionary Base in Longling is located on Aiguo Road, Longling Community, Jinlong Subdistrict, Licheng District, Quanzhou City.

In 1934, the Party established an underground communication station in Longling Village and appointed Fu Shi (also known as Chen Shi), a local villager, as the underground courier. That same year, Li Yannian, commander of the Kuomintang’s 9th Division, led troops to occupy Quanzhou and launched brutal “pacification” campaigns against communist strongholds. Many revolutionary comrades were forced into hiding, waiting for the right moment, and Fu Shi’s home—the ancestral house of the Chen Clan’s Fourth Branch—became one of the Party’s safe houses.

Starting from the period of the Agrarian Revolutionary War, leaders of the Quanzhou underground Party such as Nian Wenhua, Gu Zhongzhao, Zhu Hanying, and Wu Tianliang all sought refuge here. On one hand, they continued their revolutionary activities, spreading revolutionary ideals, and on the other, they worked to expand the revolutionary forces, recruiting over 30 underground supporters. During those extremely difficult times, the Fu Shi family ensured the safety and livelihood of the concealed comrades by coordinating with other underground Party members to guard the house day and night, and leading underground supporters to gather stray wheat spikes and dig up sweet potatoes in the mountains to feed those in hiding.

Starting in April 1947, the Quanzhou Central County Committee of the Chinese Communist Party successively assigned Yan Jiaxiang, Xie Guangwo, Zheng Xiuzhi, and Huang Yiming to carry out revolutionary activities in Longling. In May 1949, the Zimao Mountain Area Working Committee of the Jin, Nan, and Tong Working Committee of the CCP was established. The working committee frequently held meetings at Fu Shi’s and Wang Zhi’s homes to plan revolutionary struggles, such as leading underground supporters from Longling and Shangcun in torching the Waizhou Bridge, coordinating with guerrilla forces from Neikeng to attack KMT grain depots, and suppressing espionage and sabotage activities. On August 31 of the same year, Fu Shi led local armed youth along with the main guerrilla forces to participate in the liberation of Quanzhou City.

The Hidden Revolutionary Base in Longling is now one of the patriotic education bases in Licheng District. In August 2002, it was designated by the Quanzhou Municipal Government as a municipal-level cultural relics protection unit and patriotic education base. In March 2011, it was announced by the Quanzhou Municipal Party History Research Office as a Quanzhou Municipal Party History Education Base.

Jinlong Subdistrict: Established in November 2006, Jinlong Subdistrict is located in the southwest of Quanzhou City, in the central part of the Jiangnan New District, covering an area of approximately 10.86 square kilometers. It administers 11 communities: Jinbing, Gaoshan, Yuxia, Chitu, Zenglin, Gudian, Houkeng, Kengtou, Shiqi, Longling, and Jinfeng. The subdistrict is home to red tourism sites such as the former site of the Zimao Working Committee and the Longling Revolutionary Education Base. Its administrative office is located in the Jiangnan Nursing Home within Gudian Community (currently the Jiangnan Subdistrict Community Service Center building). Its development focus is on using industrial parks as a platform to develop urban-style modern industries.
