In late March of the following year, the CPC Fujian Provincial Committee-led forces, which were reorganized into the Special Forces Battalion of the 80th Division of the National Revolutionary Army—originally the guerrilla forces of the Central Fujian Red Army—after the “Quanzhou Incident,” set out from Chengtian Temple in Quanzhou to the Hongshanqiao Barracks in Fuzhou for rest and reorganization. They were then reorganized as the Second Company of the Special Forces Battalion of the New Fourth Army Headquarters and departed for the southern Anhui front in mid-April to join the war effort. In October 1959, the Quanzhou Municipal People’s Committee erected a memorial stele in Chengtian Temple, inscribed with the text: “During the Anti-Japanese War, the guerrilla forces of the Central Fujian Red Army were assembled here and reorganized into the Special Forces Battalion of the New Fourth Army for their northern expedition against Japan.”
