Shouning Nanshan Scenic Area

The Shouning Nanshan Scenic Area is a national AA-level tourist attraction.

The Nanshan Scenic Area is located in Nanyang, Shouning. It consists of five scenic zones: Jinji Mountain, Nanshan Summit, Chilingyang, Ziyun Mountain, and Guihu. It features the ancient Longyan Temple from the Ming Dynasty, a statue of Feng Menglong—a literary figure of the Ming era and former magistrate of Shouning—Chilingyang, a revolutionary site in Shouning, and the first iron suspension bridge in eastern Fujian—Guiling Suspension Bridge.

The thousand-year-old Sānfēng Temple is situated in the southwestern part of Aoyang Town, surrounded by undulating peaks. It leans against the back mountain, resembling an inverted lotus, and faces a cluster of peaks, forming a tripod-like shape, hence its name. The temple was initially built during the early Song Dynasty with donations from Chen Hongzhen, the then appointed Minor Minister of Rites, and has undergone multiple renovations over the dynasties. It includes structures such as the Mahavira Hall, Heavenly King Hall, Scripture Depository, Chanting Hall, Mountain Gate Pavilion, and Bell and Drum Towers, covering a total construction area of over 3,500 square meters. It houses precious cultural relics such as a thousand-year-old Song Dynasty bluestone incense burner and a solid copper statue of Guanyin. The temple remains highly active, attracting a continuous stream of worshippers and visitors. The “Feng Menglong’s Former Official Residence in Shouning” stele, located at the former site of the county government office in Chengye County, along with Dai Qing Pavilion, and the East Gate City Wall, East Dam, and Shengping Bridge restored by Feng Menglong during his tenure in Shouning, are important historical sites for studying him. The currently under-construction Sānfēng Park is a project initiated by both the county and town governments to benefit the people. Following the principles of “new, green, elegant, and interesting,” it integrates the past and present, blending culture and nature. It serves as a comprehensive leisure destination for sightseeing, exploration, history appreciation, reverence, and pilgrimage.
