The 1769 *Taining County Annals* record: “Tea from Emei Peak is of high quality.” This shows that historically, tea produced in Taining already enjoyed considerable renown.
Taining has a long history of tea production, and the county has developed nearly 10,000 acres of tea gardens centered around three towns—Shancheng, Longhu, and Meikou. However, according to planning, by 2011, the total tea plantation area in Taining reached approximately 12,000 acres, with an annual tea output of about 750 tons and a total tea industry output value of around 45 million yuan.
It is understood that in the 1960s, Taining began introducing superior tea varieties such as “Fuyun No. 6,” “Huangliu,” “Meizhan,” and “Tieguanyin,” cultivating them on a large scale. By the 1970s, Taining had put forward the idea that “to enrich mountainous areas, plant tea trees on the hills,” which led to rapid development in the region’s tea production.
