Former Site of the Red Army Slogan Wall

The Former Site of the Red Army Slogan Wall is a Fujian Provincial Cultural Relics Protection Unit, a classic red tourism attraction, and a patriotic education base.

The Former Site of the Red Army Slogan Wall is located on the walls of residential buildings along both sides of Lingshang Street in Hongwei Administrative Village, Shan Cheng Town, Taining County.

From August 1933 to February 1934, during the period when the headquarters of the First Front Army of the Red Army was relocated to the Chen family compound on Lingshang Street, the General Political Department of the Red Army and its forces actively carried out propaganda campaigns. They sought to shake and undermine the enemy forces using the policies of the Party and the Red Army, writing notices and slogans on the walls along the street with ink. The Red Army wrote large slogans such as “Long Live the Red Army,” “Down with the Reactionary Kuomintang,” and “Down with Imperialism” on the walls of residences along Lingshang Street, as well as a huge proclamation titled “A Message to the Soldiers and Junior Officers of Liu Hedeng’s Troops.”

The large proclamation, titled “A Message to the Soldiers and Junior Officers of Liu Hedeng’s Troops,” measures 2.6 meters in height, 4.2 meters in width, covering an area of approximately 13 square meters, with a total of 665 characters written in regular script. It is the largest single-piece text relic from the original Central Soviet Area that still exists today, both in terms of area and preservation condition. This proclamation thoroughly exposed the ugly face of the Kuomintang reactionaries, calling on the soldiers and junior officers under Liu Hedeng to see the situation clearly, abandon the dark and come to the light, join the ranks of the Red Army, and fight together against Japanese aggression.

In August 1995, the Former Site of the Red Army Slogan Wall was designated as a Taining County Cultural Relics Protection Unit by the Taining County People’s Government. In May 2005, it was designated as a Fujian Provincial Cultural Relics Protection Unit by the Fujian Provincial People’s Government. In June 2005, it was designated as a Sanming City Patriotic Education Base by the Sanming Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China and the Sanming Municipal People’s Government.

It is located southwest of the county urban area, surrounding the Lufeng Mountain Forest Park, on the north bank of the Jinxi River.
