The Passes and Battleworks of the New Bridge Counterattack

The passes and battleworks of the New Bridge Counterattack are a classic red tourism site.

The passes (Wuliao Pass) and battleworks of the New Bridge Counterattack are located about 8 kilometers from Dayuan Village in Taining County.

On March 22, 1934, the first battle of the New Bridge Counterattack took place here. As the vanguard, the 38th Regiment of the 13th Red Army Division took control of Wuliao Pass (also called Chahua Pass) and Yan Pass ahead of the enemy and constructed fortifications to repel the attackers. The battle was extremely fierce. The 38th Regiment held their ground and repelled multiple enemy assaults, but eventually had to abandon the two passes due to overwhelming enemy forces and retreated back to Dayuan Village. Today, remnants of the trenches and shelters dug by the Red Army can still be found at these two passes, making them important historical sites of the New Bridge Counterattack.

Wuliao Pass (also known as Chahua Pass) and Yan Pass have been strategically significant military strongholds since ancient times, with an old post road connecting Fujian and Jiangxi provinces passing through here. Beyond the passes, one could travel directly into Lichuan County in Jiangxi. In ancient times, aside from the post road, this ancient route was the most crucial outbound passage within Taining County.
