In June 1931, after the failure of the second "encirclement and suppression" campaign against the Central Soviet Area, Chiang Kai-shek once again mobilized 300,000 troops from 23 divisions and 3 brigades of the Nationalist Army to launch the third "encirclement and suppression" campaign against the Central Soviet Area. At this time, Mao Zedong issued the general mobilization order for the third counter-"encirclement and suppression" campaign, and the main force of the Red Army returned a thousand miles to southern Jiangxi. On July 9, the Red 6th Division stationed in Taining was ordered to regroup and prepare to move to Jianning for assembly before returning to Xingguo, Jiangxi. Before withdrawing from Taining, the Red 6th Division dispersed some cadres and civilians to hide in the countryside and arranged for local guerrilla forces to tie down the enemy and cover the main force’s relocation. On July 12, the Red 6th Division returned to Xingguo, Jiangxi to participate in the counter-"encirclement and suppression" battle. Some cadres and masses from the Taining County Party Branch, county and district revolutionary committees, and guerrilla forces, along with over 100 guerrillas from Jianning who were marching toward Taining, were combined to form the Jian-Tai Independent Regiment. They moved to the Mount Jinrao area at the border of the two counties to carry out guerrilla warfare. From July 1931 to October 1932, the Jian-Tai Independent Regiment persisted in conducting protracted and arduous guerrilla warfare behind enemy lines, while also cooperating with the 35th Regiment of the 12th Red Army Division in scouting enemy movements and delaying enemy advances. On October 19, 1932, when the Red Army liberated Taining for the second time, the Taining County Party Branch, county and district revolutionary committee offices, and guerrilla members returned to the county town from Mount Jinrao.

The Jian-Tai Independent Regiment Guerrilla Warfare Site. Mount Jinrao is situated at the border of Taining and Jianning counties. It is a mountain characterized mainly by granite landforms, covering an area of 14.4 square kilometers and with an elevation of over 1,800 meters. It is the second highest peak in Fujian, boasting beautiful scenery and has now become a valuable tourism resource for both counties.
