Zhangping Shanglin Reservoir

Shanglin Reservoir is located in Shanglin Natural Village, Qingyuan Village, Yongfu Town, intercepting water from the headwaters of the Xiaye Stream. Construction began in October 1959, and it was originally designed as a small (Type I) reservoir. Due to national economic difficulties, construction was halted in August 1961. Work resumed in May 1976, expanding it into a medium-sized reservoir. It was completed in December 1980 and began storing water in March 1981. Shanglin Reservoir is a water storage project built in the early years of the People’s Republic of China, primarily aimed at addressing the water scarcity issues in the high-altitude areas of Yongfu Town.

A large dam blocks the waters from the headwaters of the Xiaye Stream, and the lake surface shimmers under the sunlight, with faint wisps of mist gently rising from the heat. Azure skies float with leisurely white clouds; surrounding the reservoir are lush green mountains, dotted with red-tiled cottages. Occasionally, waterfowl glide gracefully over the lake, perhaps eyeing the freshwater fish bred in the fish rafts below... This serene scene feels like a heavenly alpine lake bestowed upon the people of Yongfu—tranquil and natural.

The town covers a total area of 535.5 square kilometers. To the east, it borders the Xiamen-Zhangzhou-Quanzhou 'Golden Triangle'; to the south, it neighbors Hexi Town in Nanjing County; to the north, it connects directly to Yong’an and Sanming; and to the west, it borders Longyan City.
