Zhangping City Library

Established in 1985 and relocated to its new building in 1992, Zhangping City Library is a cultural institution that integrates book lending, promotional guidance, information consulting, and the development and utilization of secondary and tertiary literature resources. It currently has 18 staff members, 15 of whom hold associate degrees or higher. The library building spans 2,000 cm², offers over 300 reading seats, houses a collection of more than 70,000 books, and subscribes to over 300 types of periodicals covering politics, economics, science and technology, history, literature, and other fields. Currently, all library services are computerized. Books are available for open-shelf borrowing, with over 80,000 books borrowed annually, serving around 70,000 visitors per year. The library also handles approximately 20 information retrieval requests, answers about 800 inquiries, and organizes over 10 reader activities, lectures, and seminars annually. Opening hours are from 8:00–11:30 am and 3:00–5:30 pm on Mondays through Sundays, with extended evening hours from 7:00–9:00 pm. The library remains open during holidays. Since 1987, it has been awarded the title of Municipal Civilized Unit by the municipal Party committee and government every year. From 1992 to the present, it has been designated as a “National Second-Class Public Library” by the Ministry of Culture for three consecutive terms, and in 2006 was listed as one of Fujian Province’s third batch of demonstration sites for the Cultural Information Sharing Project by the Provincial Department of Culture. In recent years, guided by Deng Xiaoping Theory and the important thought of “-”, and in strict adherence to the Party’s guidelines, policies, and principles, the library has consistently upheld the principle of “Readers First, Service Paramount,” maximizing its role as a community knowledge hub.
