The Red Army Message Wall in Yangmei is a cultural relic protection unit of Fujian Province and a classic red tourism site.

The Red Army Message Wall in Yangmei is located in Yangmei Village, Xianghu Town, Zhangping City, dating back to 1929.

Description: The wall is located in the residence “Rongfu Hall” in Yangmei Village. On August 20, 1929, Zhu De led the Fourth Red Army on their march toward Datian in central Fujian and passed through Yangmei Village. At that time, the local villagers, unfamiliar with the Red Army, hid from the soldiers and fled the village. It was noon when the Red Army soldiers were unable to buy food, so they took 26 jin (approximately 13 kg) of rice from a room in the auxiliary wing on the left side of the “Rongfu Hall” residence. They left behind two silver dollars and entrusted Su Guansi, an elderly man who was disabled and too weak to flee, to return the money to the owner, Su He. A message was written on the wall of the room: “Boss, you are not at home. I bought your 26 jin of rice. Two silver dollars. The money is with Boss Guansi. The Red Army.” The message measures 0.55 meters in height and 0.35 meters in width, with a total of four lines and 30 characters, and no punctuation. This simple and clear wall message is a historical testament to the strict discipline of the Red Army.

In 2018, the Red Army Message Wall in Yangmei was designated as part of the ninth batch of provincial-level cultural relic protection units by the People’s Government of Fujian Province.

Protected area: An extension of 10 meters outward from all sides of the auxiliary wing of Rongfu Hall.

Established as Xianghu Township in 1951, it was incorporated into Xinan Commune in 1958, split off to form Xianghu Commune in 1961, reinstated as Xianghu Township in 1984, and upgraded to a town in 1995. Covering an area of 170 square kilometers with a population of 12,000, Provincial Highway 103 runs through the entire town.
