Zhangzhou Zhishan Park

The old Zhishan Park in Zhangzhou City is located to the north of the Zhangzhou Municipal Government complex, on Datong North Road in Xiangcheng District. It was built and put into use in 1992, and is currently the most naturally preserved landscape park in the city center, as well as the only mountain park in the urban area. The entire park covers an area of 28.5 hectares, utilizing the original dense vegetation and elegant scenery to construct winding hiking trails, with a new three-story, eight-sided pavilion called "Lanyue Pavilion" built at the mountaintop.

The second phase renovation project of Zhangzhou Zhishan Park was completed on July 20, 2017, and officially opened to the public.

The second phase covers an area of approximately 297 mu and began renovation and construction in December 2015. The construction of the second phase of Zhishan Park follows the principles of returning to nature, adapting to the mountain terrain, protecting forest ecology, creating wet pond landscapes in low-lying areas, excavating historical culture, and erecting statues of notable figures from Zhangzhou’s past, recreating the scenic beauty of pavilions and corridors overlooking each other, mountains and waters in harmony, and a continuous cultural heritage of the Zizhi Scenic Area.

- It is reported that Zhishan Park is divided into five zones: the Entrance Service Area, the Mountain View Area, the Waterfront Recreation Area

- the Wetland Leisure Area, and the Dense Forest Leisure Area. Among these, the Entrance Service Area and the Waterfront Recreation Area were part of the first phase and have already been completed and opened. The second phase of Zhishan Park focuses on mountain climbing and lake-side greenery appreciation, representing a comprehensive mountain park that combines forest atmosphere, natural wild charm, and Minnan cultural characteristics, integrating sightseeing, leisure fitness, and tourism.

Danxia Mist Corridor

- According to relevant officials from the Zhangzhou Municipal Gardens and Landscaping Bureau, the second phase of Zhishan Park fully embodies the philosophy of respecting nature and ecology. Utilizing the original mountain drainage channels, marshlands, and lakes, and following the concepts and technical standards of a sponge city, it makes use of the terrain to achieve rainwater retention, infiltration, and purification within the area; it maximally preserves the original vegetation, skillfully arranges garden plants, and rationally plans rainforest boardwalks and park greenways, supplemented by a small number of rest pavilions and convenience facilities, creating an ecological landscape area that allows visitors to enjoy the lakeside and mountain views, take in the panoramic sights, while also addressing rainwater storage, purification, infiltration, and drainage, preventing secondary disasters such as landslides during typhoons and heavy rains.

- Forest Leisure Area

- The Forest Leisure Area is located in the southern part of Zhishan Park. The main southern entrance of the park is situated at the junction of this area and Xuefu Road. The plan makes use of the terrain and its historical culture to restore and construct the Ganlu and Rihua pavilions, forming a triad with the Wanshou Pavilion.

- This area is characterized mainly by mountain climbing, eco-wellness, and rich seasonal changes in forest foliage, including four scenic spots: Zhinan Yongcui (Zhishan Embracing Greenery), Ganlu Shenghua (Ganlu Sublimation), Rihua Chenxi (Rihua Morning Light), and Xiangxue Hua Hai (Camellia Blossom Sea), as well as four specialized gardens: Fragrance Garden, Rainforest Garden, Bamboo Garden, and Spring Rhyme Garden. Through hiking trails, visitors can reach the Ganlu and Rihua pavilions. On the mountainside, rest pavilions, corridors, and other structures are planned to form a cluster, creating scenic interest based on historical allusions and offering mountain-climbing views. In addition, this area offers diverse sensory experiences through its specialized gardens.

- Banshan Pavilion

- Senior Citizens’ Activity Area

- The Senior Citizens’ Activity Area is located directly north of the Forest Leisure Area, backed by the northern peak of Zhishan and facing Zishan Lake, forming an ideal location with mountains behind and water in front, covering an area of 32 mu. The terrain here is generally flat, with some slight undulations that allow for the creation of garden landscapes favored by the elderly.

- This area is characterized by leisure fitness and eco-wellness, offering a wellness experience of “recreation in the forest and cultivation of the mind and body.” A leisure tea house is set up here, along with landscape nodes such as a Tai Chi plaza, Danxia Mist Corridor, rest pavilions, and bird-walking squares, providing spaces for the elderly to enjoy tea, practice Tai Chi, play chess, admire the view, and engage in bird-walking activities.

- Shifeng Pavilion

- Mountain View Area

- The Mountain View Area is located in the northern part of Zhishan Park, covering an area of about 80 mu, and is one of the core scenic areas of the park. The northern peak of Zhishan is the highest point in the park, where the historic Wanshou Pavilion is situated.

- This area is characterized by mountain climbing and cultural education, consisting of two scenic spots: the Wanshou Pavilion and Zhishan Cultural Academy. As the highest point in the park, the Wanshou Pavilion is the best spot for panoramic views, and plans include renovating its hiking trails and surrounding greenery to ensure unobstructed views. The Zhishan Cultural Academy is renovated from the original management building into a cultural art gallery, showcasing the past, present, and future of Zhishan and Zhangzhou, as well as various cultural arts of Zhangzhou.

- Muyu Pavilion

- Children’s Activity Area

- The Children’s Activity Area is located near the southern main entrance, covering an area of about 30 mu. The terrain here is flat with wide views, making it suitable for various children's activities.

- This area is characterized by science education and recreational activities, including two landscape spaces: Children’s Park and Sparse Woodland Meadow, as well as a Children’s Science-themed Special Garden. The Children’s Park is equipped with various amusement facilities for children to play and promote interaction among children and between children and their parents. The Sparse Woodland Meadow provides a more spacious and relaxed area for citizens to enjoy spring and autumn outings.
