Puto Grand Temple is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Fujian Province.

Puto Grand Temple

Year built: Qing Dynasty

Location: North side of Puto Port, Gangkou Subdistrict, Xiangcheng District, Zhangzhou City

Introduction: Also known as Chongfu Palace, it is primarily dedicated to Guan Yu and serves as a branch shrine of the Guan Yu Temple in Jiezhou, Shanxi. It was initially built in the 14th year of the Chunxi era of the Song Dynasty (1187), expanded in the 34th year of the Kangxi era of the Qing Dynasty (1695) by the famous Taiwan campaign general Lan Li, and renovated in the 5th year of the Qianlong era of the Qing Dynasty (1740). The temple features a traditional hip-and-gable roof with swallowtail ridges, faces south, and has a front courtyard. It covers a total area of approximately 4,500 square meters. Within the temple grounds are six stone steles dating from the Wanli era of the Ming Dynasty to the Daoguang era of the Qing Dynasty, recording official regulations and local agreements related to ship mooring and trade tariffs.

Protected area: 20 meters outward from all sides of the building.

In 2009, Puto Grand Temple was designated as part of the seventh batch of Provincial-Level Cultural Heritage Protection Units by the People’s Government of Fujian Province.
