Jian Dashī Shelter

The Jian Dashī Shelter is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Fujian Province.

The Jian Dashī Shelter is located on Xinhua West Road, Xiangcheng District, Zhangzhou City, dating back to 1898.

Description: In the 24th year of the Guangxu reign of the Qing Dynasty (1898), Jian Dashī, a Taiwanese anti-Japanese hero, fled from Taiwan to the mainland to evade Japanese pursuit after resisting Japanese forces. He took refuge here but was later captured by Qing troops and handed over to the Japanese authorities, where he heroically died in Taiwan. The building was originally a guild hall established by the Jian clan of Zhangzhou to host visiting members of the Jian family from both home and abroad. It faces south and consists of a front hall, a connecting corridor, and a main hall, covering an area of 660 square meters. Both the front hall and the main hall have three bays in width and three columns in depth, featuring raised-beam and through-tenon style roof structures, and are topped with flush-gable roofs.

In 2013, the Jian Dashī Shelter was designated as part of the eighth batch of provincial-level cultural heritage sites by the People’s Government of Fujian Province.

Protected area: An additional 10-meter buffer zone extends outward from all sides of the building.
