Zhangtai Rafting

Zhangtai Rafting, also hailed as the “No. 1 Rafting in Fujian,” is located in Zhangtai County, Fujian Province, 37 km from Xiamen, 26 km from Zhangzhou, and 120 km from Quanzhou.

The Zhangtai Mayangxi Rafting course spans approximately 8 km, featuring over 70 rapids and 60 turns, with a total elevation drop of 62 meters between the upper and lower sections. Drifting along the current, you’ll be amid rushing waves and thrilling excitement, washing away the dust of daily life and forgetting all worldly glory or shame. It offers both the boldness of singing loudly while paddling and the exhilaration of battling the surging waves. This is a journey full of thrills yet free of real danger, and the beginning of passionate days. The stream is dotted with uniquely shaped rocks, while lush forests and bamboos line the banks, creating a picturesque scene. The chirping of birds and the bloom of mountain flowers offer a feeling of being one with nature. As a poem goes: “Rare is the life without confusion; rafting teaches more than ten years of books. As a national canoeing training base, the “No. 1 Rafting in Fujian” shares the same river channel with China’s first international canoe slalom competition venue and the National Canoe Slalom Training Base—it is the cradle of China’s canoeing sport. It has been designated by the Provincial Sports Bureau and the Provincial Tourism Bureau as the Fujian Provincial Mass Fitness Activity Center and the Fujian Provincial Designated Rafting Tourism Unit. It has successfully hosted international events such as the First International Canoe Slalom Invitational Tournament and the First National Canoe Slalom Selection Competition.

Zhangtai Rafting Company is an enterprise established in response to the county Party committee and government’s development strategy of “promoting the county through tourism.” With strong support from the county government, Xiamen Guang Industrial Co., Ltd. joined the rafting company in April 1999, initially investing a total of 1.5 million yuan. Later, Xiamen Guang expanded the total investment to over 12 million yuan on its own. The company has not only become a leading enterprise in Zhangtai County’s tourism industry but also the only rafting company in the province that offers comprehensive services with a three-star standard hotel.

In 2000, the Provincial Tourism Bureau designated Zhangtai Rafting as the “Fujian Provincial Designated Rafting Tourism Unit” in its first batch, and the Provincial Sports Bureau named it the “Fujian Provincial Mass Fitness Activity Center.” It has now also been recognized by the PLA Aquatic Sports Team as a canoe slalom training base. When He Shaochuan, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, visited Zhangtai Rafting, he left the inscription “Rafting for Fitness.”

Since its establishment, Zhangtai Rafting Company has received around 100,000 visitors and tourists, including guests from the United States, Japan, Indonesia, Belgium, Thailand, France, Germany, Brazil, the United Kingdom, Russia, and compatriots from Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau. The company also hosted the first international slalom sports team invited by the National Sports Bureau—the German Youth Slalom Sports Team—and successfully organized the National Slalom Sports Judges Training Class.
