Shennong Grand Canyon
The Shennong Grand Canyon Eco-Tourism Area is located in Shangyang Village, Fangyang Town, Zhangpu County, 88 kilometers from Xiamen. The mysterious belief in Shennong culture has been passed down here for nearly a thousand years, and to this day, the folk saying still circulates: “One bow to Shennong brings thriving business and bountiful harvests; two bows bring freedom from all illness and a lifetime of safety; three bows bring career success and wish fulfillment.”
The scenic area spans over 30,000 acres, featuring the most spectacular waterfall clusters, the highest concentration of negative oxygen ions, water volume, and water system density in Zhangpu. It also hosts over a thousand acres of wild spotted fish and animal breeding zones, as well as nearly a thousand acres of tea plantations. Throughout history, it has attracted a continuous stream of visitors from all walks of life coming to pay homage. The quaint little wooden cabins in the scenic area, styled in the Japanese tatami fashion of Shennong’s Divine Abode, further attest to the closely intertwined Shennong cultures of China and Japan. To this day, Tokyo and Osaka also have specially built structures related to Shennong worship that date back over 400 years.
The scenic area combines creative pilgrimage, gourmet Zen retreats, and eco-leisure experiences, offering opportunities for exploration, heritage seeking, cuisine, wellness, conferences, and team-building. Moreover, since the ancient village where it is located is soon to be submerged and become a future underwater village, it is a rare eco-cultural tourism destination. It is an ideal place for a charming countryside retreat focused on wellness and revitalization.
