Yang Liandi Park

Yang Liandi Park is located at the intersection of Gaofeng Road and Beicang Avenue in Beichen District, covering an area of 16,344 square meters. The park features a statue of Yang Liandi, a national hero of the Volunteer Army and a climbing hero. It serves as a site for paying tribute to revolutionary martyrs and a base for revolutionary education. The area is separated from other sections by evergreen pine and cypress trees, reflecting both solemnity and seamless integration with its surroundings. The park boasts pleasant scenery, making it a popular spot for local residents to take walks, relax, enjoy leisure activities, and exercise. It is also one of the more modern-feeling parks in the area.

In the park stands a west-facing stone bust of Yang Liandi. The pedestal bears the inscription “Climbing Hero Yang Liandi,” written on May 5, 1995, by Hong Xuezhi, then Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference. The back of the monument is engraved with a biography of the martyr’s life and six illustrations depicting his illustrious deeds. The bust and pedestal together stand 5.2 meters tall.

On the southern side of the park lies a large lotus pond, which features attractions such as a mushroom-shaped pavilion for admiring the lotuses, a viewing platform, a lotus-watching corridor, and Cangfeng Garden.

Yang Liandi (1919–1952) was a native of Beicang Town, Beichen District, Tianjin. He was a “Climbing Hero” during the Korean War. In July 2009, Yang Liandi was listed among the 150 finalists for the “100 Moving Figures in China’s New Era,” as published by People’s Daily. He was also honored on Tianjin’s list of “60 Moving Figures of Tianjin — Pride of the Haihe River.”

Yang Liandi (1919–1952)

Deputy Company Commander of the 1st Company, 1st Battalion, 1st Regiment, Railway Engineering Corps of the Chinese People’s Volunteer Army. A native of Beichen District, Tianjin. He joined the Chinese People’s Liberation Army in February 1949, holding positions such as squad leader, platoon leader, and technical deputy company commander. He was awarded the title of “Climbing Hero” and attended the National Congress of Combat Heroes and Model Workers. On May 15, 1952, while repairing the Chongchon River Bridge, he was killed by a delayed-action bomb dropped by a U.S. military aircraft. The leadership of the Chinese People’s Volunteer Army posthumously recognized Yang Liandi as having made special-class meritorious service and awarded him the title of “First-Class Combat Hero.” … More details about Yang Liandi ++
