The Martyrs' Memorial Hall of Yang Liandi serves as a patriotic education base.

The Martyrs' Memorial Hall of Yang Liandi was first built in 1995, originally located on the sixth floor of the Beichen District Youth Palace. In the same year, Yang Liandi Park and a bronze statue of Yang Liandi were also constructed. In 2012, on the 60th anniversary of Yang Liandi’s martyrdom, reconstruction began, and by early April 2013, the new hall was completed and officially opened to the public. In 1997, it was designated as a Tianjin Municipal Patriotic Education Base by the Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government.

Yang Liandi was born in 1919 in Beicang Town, Tianjin. In February 1949, he joined the Railway Corps of the People's Liberation Army. While repairing the No. 8 High Bridge on the Longhai Railway, Yang Liandi bravely and skillfully climbed over 40 meters up the bridge pier and completed the repair work ahead of schedule, earning him the honorary title of “Hero of Scaling Heights.” In October 1950, he joined the Chinese People’s Volunteer Army and served as deputy company commander of Company 1, Regiment 1, Division 1 of the Railway Corps. On the Korean battlefield, Yang Liandi successfully carried out numerous critical railway bridge repair missions, providing strong support for the front-line combat efforts. In July 1951, while repairing the Chongchon River Bridge, he led a platoon to erect a pontoon bridge twelve times and invented the “steel rail pontoon bridge” method, which ensured construction continuity and restored the frequently interrupted bridge to normal operation.

On May 15, 1952, while directing his company in bridge construction at the Chongchon River Bridge, Yang Liandi was struck in the head by shrapnel from an enemy timed bomb and died a heroic death at the age of 33. The Chinese People’s Volunteer Army posthumously awarded him the Special Class Merit and honored him with the title of “First-Class Combat Hero.” The Presidium of the Supreme People’s Assembly of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea posthumously awarded him the title of “Hero of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea,” along with the First Class Order of the National Flag and the Gold Star Medal. His former unit was named the “Yang Liandi Company.” The reconstructed Martyrs' Memorial Hall of Yang Liandi features a traditional Chinese architectural style, facing east with the entrance on the west side. It covers a construction area of 320 square meters and consists of three sections: the Art Hall, the Deeds Exhibition Hall, and the Multimedia Theater. It comprehensively displays the heroic deeds of Yang Liandi through a wealth of photographs, artifacts, and audiovisual materials. The Yang Liandi Martyrs' Memorial Hall and the martyr’s statue are jointly located within Yang Liandi Park, effectively integrating previously scattered educational resources. Party members, cadres, masses, and youths from both inside and outside the district frequently visit on traditional holidays such as Tomb-Sweeping Day to pay tribute to the martyr and engage in patriotic education activities, making it a new hub for thematic educational events.
