Puyu School is a patriotic education base.

Puyu School is located in Yixingpu, an ancient town in northern Tianjin, situated on the former site of Yixingpu No. 2 Primary School. In 1929, the renowned educator Wen Yingshi, driven by a vision of saving the nation through education, founded the Puyu Girls' School in Yixingpu to promote the spirit of Puyu. The school upheld the motto “Diligence and Integrity,” and educated students with advanced concepts and innovative teaching methods. It became widely renowned, nurturing many talented individuals, and later admitted both boys and girls, changing its name to Yixingpu Normal Primary School. It continued operating until it was destroyed by fire during the Liberation War.

In December 2006, the Tianjin “Historic Famous Schools” Project Leadership Group approved the reconstruction of Puyu School by the People’s Government of Beichen District. The project was completed and put into use in December 2008. The rebuilt school covers an area of approximately 53,000 square meters, with a total construction area of 39,000 square meters. It features traditional Chinese Qing-style architecture, including primary school teaching areas, secondary school teaching areas, laboratory zones, and administrative offices. The design incorporates gray wall finishes, self-applied plastering, courtyard styles, steel beam connections, as well as landscape areas themed around music, chess, calligraphy, and painting, along with garden greenery—creating a pleasant environment for students to enjoy beyond their studies. The school has a capacity of 60 classes, including 36 primary classes and 24 junior high classes, accommodating up to 2,820 students. It is a modern educational institution equipped with comprehensive teaching facilities, distinctive features, and fully functional resources.

Puyu School adheres to the motto “Diligence and Integrity,” promotes the Puyu spirit of educating all and cultivating high-caliber talent, and remains committed to the educational mission of “building a modern international school with Chinese characteristics” and the teaching goal of “developing students into Chinese individuals who can stride confidently onto the world stage.” Guided by the principles of “inheriting China’s outstanding traditional culture” and “understanding world cultures,” the school uses these as fundamental approaches to foster the development of teachers and students. Leveraging special activities as breakthroughs, it aims to unlock every student’s potential while promoting balanced development in moral, intellectual, physical, aesthetic, and labor education. The school nurtures well-rounded individuals with solid foundations, strong abilities, notable interests, and commendable character. In 2009, it was designated as a Tianjin Patriotic Education Base by the Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government.
