Dazhuang Village Temple of the Medicine God

The Dazhuang Village Temple of the Medicine God is a cultural relic protection unit of Tianjin Municipality.

The Dazhuang Village Temple of the Medicine God is located in Dazhuang Village, Dazhangzhuang Town, Beichen District, Tianjin, and dates back to the Ming Dynasty.

According to the Second National Cultural Relics Survey: it was initially built during the Ming Dynasty and renovated in the Qing Dynasty. The original complex included front and rear halls as well as east and west side halls, but only the rear hall remains today. It features a layout of three bays outwardly and six bays inwardly, with a five-rafter lifted-beam structure, a flush-gable roof with a herringbone ridge, and covers a construction area of 180 square meters. The horizontal inscribed board reads “Prayers Answered,” in regular script.

Investigations revealed that in the early years after liberation, the temple was repurposed for schooling, and later it suffered damage during the “One Leveling, Two Adjustments” campaign. The east wall collapsed during an earthquake. The remaining rear hall now measures 11.3 meters in length and 8.05 meters in width. Due to long-term neglect, the temple site has become overgrown and abandoned, with weeds spreading all around.

On January 5, 2013, the Tianjin Municipal People’s Government designated it as part of the Fourth Batch of Tianjin Cultural Relics Protection Units.
