Feixi Xiaojingzhuang

Xiaojingzhuang is located in Feixi County, Anhui Province. It got its name from a well built in the second year of the Guangxu reign during the Qing Dynasty, which stands in front of the village. The surrounding area boasts a beautiful ecological environment, with the Lianhua Mountain Forest Park, Modun Lake, several reservoirs, as well as vast forested and water areas. It is a tourist attraction that integrates patriotic education, rural tourism, and a model site for new rural development, and serves as the backyard garden of the provincial capital, Hefei.

In 1978, Feixi County suffered a severe drought, with almost no rain falling from the beginning of spring to the Start of Autumn. On September 23, in order to better organize production, use water rationally, and conserve water, Xiaojingzhuang distributed land and ponds to groups, and the following year allocated fields to individual households. It was the first place in China to implement the household responsibility system. The people of Xiaojingzhuang and even the entire Shankou Town broke the old production relations with their pioneering "dare-to-be-the-first" spirit, reshaped the thinking of the Chinese people, and triggered profound economic reforms across all urban and rural sectors in China. It became the birthplace of China’s rural household responsibility system, predating the famous "big contract" in Xiaogang Village, Fengyang County on November 24, 1978, by over two months. In 2005, the Xiaojingzhuang Household Responsibility System Memorial Hall was opened to the public. Following the development vision of “birthplace of reform, tourist attraction, and ecological agriculture zone,” it has been extensively planned and constructed to promote the “dare-to-be-the-first” spirit of the people of Xiaojingzhuang. It has become an important highlight in Feixi's tourism landscape.

Public transport: Take bus 30 from the Provincial Museum stop on Jinzhai Road to Shangpai North Youth Road, then transfer to the Shankou Passenger Dedicated Line to reach Xiaojingzhuang in Shankou Town.

Self-drive route: From downtown Hefei, take Jinqiao South Road onto He’an Road (G206), pass through Huagang Sihe Street, turn right at the Yangtao intersection onto Yangtao Road, and drive 16 kilometers forward to reach Xiaojingzhuang.
