Exploring Anhui, becoming an Anhui local, and sharing stories about this place — recently, the weather in Anhui has been sunny with comfortable temperatures overall. With New Year’s Day just around the corner, invite a few close friends to enjoy the nearby scenery and take in the views before you. Hefei is located in eastern China, between the Yangtze and Huaihe rivers, embracing Chaohu Lake, and boasts a superior geographical location. As someone who has lived in Hefei for a long time as an Anhui native, there are many must-visit spots. Next, I’ll share some lesser-known attractions with you.
Sun Liren, courtesy name Fumin and art name Zhongneng, was of Han ethnicity, born in Sanhe, Shucheng County, Anhui Province (now Feixi County, Hefei, Anhui), and originally from Jinniu Town, Lujiang County, Anhui Province. He graduated successively from Tsinghua University and the Virginia Military Institute in the United States. He held the rank of Lieutenant General in the Army of the Republic of China. Sun Liren’s Former Residence is located on Basha Lane, Gunan Street in Sanhe. It was destroyed in the floods of 1991. The current Sun Liren’s Former Residence was rebuilt to its original design by the people of Sanhe Town. It features mainly Huizhou-style architecture and covers an area of about 400 square meters.

The Guocui Tower is the tallest building in Sanhe Ancient Town, a seven-story structure formerly known as Zhongwu Pavilion and Wangyue Pavilion. It now serves as the Sanhe Ancient Town Museum. Inside the Guocui Tower, nearly a thousand ancient artistic treasures passed down through the town’s history and privately collected are displayed, especially over a hundred plaques collected from the local community dating from the Ming and Qing dynasties to the Republican era. Each plaque holds a little-known story.

The Provincial Geological Museum is located by the beautiful Swan Lake in Hefei, the capital of Anhui Province, within the Anhui Cultural and Museum Park. It has a total construction area of 26,500 square meters, with an exhibition area of 16,500 square meters. The new museum includes six permanent exhibition halls: the Lobby, Earth Hall, Life Evolution Hall, Dinosaur Hall, Mineral and Rock Hall, and Resources and Environment Hall, along with an atrium leisure area, a 4D science education cinema, a multi-functional academic lecture hall, temporary exhibition spaces, and outdoor landscape areas.
Provincial Geological Museum
The SanGuo Relics Park, officially known as the Hefei SanGuo New City Relics Park, was originally built by Man Chong, the General Who Pacifies the East during the Three Kingdoms period, thirty li outside the city of Hefei. Located on Sanling Park Road, Shisanfang, Luyang District, Hefei, it opened to the public on September 28, 2006. It is now a key cultural relics protection unit of Anhui Province and a patriotic education base in Hefei. The park covers an area of 530 mu, bordered by the ancient course of the Feishui River (historically known as the Shi River) to the south, and adjacent to Jiming Mountain and General Ridge to the west. The park offers fresh air and beautiful scenery, with deep historical roots in the Three Kingdoms culture. Attractions include the New City Relics Exhibition Hall, Golden Tiger Terrace, Juxian Hall, Man Chong’s Thatched Cottage, Zhengdong Gate, ruins of the East Side Gate, Military Training Command Platform, Weapon Casting Kiln Site, Troop Barracks Ruins, Horse Watering Pool, and the Time Tunnel. It combines cultural history, sightseeing, and leisure entertainment.
SanGuo Relics Park
Feicui Lake is situated in the Hefei Economic and Technological Development Zone, adjacent to many universities including Anhui University and Hefei University of Technology. The entire scenic area spans 2,022 mu, including a lake surface of 947 mu, and was reconstructed from the ancient Geng Reservoir. With gentle terrain, featuring water surfaces and various trees, the natural scenery is beautiful. The area is divided into four zones and one park: the Eco-Leisure and Entertainment Scenic Area, Dam Landscape Interaction Zone, Feicui Lake Guesthouse Area, and Feicui Park Area. The site breaks away from traditional symmetrical and uniform layouts, adopting a design philosophy centered on “humanity, ecology, and landscape,” and admission is free.
