Feidong Dongjing Wetland Park — Comprising Three Types of Wetlands

The Chuhe Main Canal meanders gently through Liangyuan Town in Feidong County, presenting breathtaking scenery. Guanwan Reservoir boasts expansive waters, resembling a crystal-clear pearl embedded in the vast sea of green. In spring, as all things come back to life, the grass grows and birds fly, and the ducks are the first to sense the warming river—flocks of waterfowl skim across the surface, bringing with them the essence of spring; in summer, vast expanses of lotus flowers bloom, their crimson hues glowing brilliantly under the sun, while at dusk, a lone boat drifts across the shimmering waters, offering a uniquely charming scene; in autumn, the land is laden with abundant fruit, golden hues stretch as far as the eye can see, and reeds sway gently in the autumn breeze; in winter, everything is blanketed in silvery white, with resilient remnants of lotus leaves showcasing the power of life. The beauty of each season is unique, a generous gift from nature.

The proposed Anhui Feidong Dongjing National Wetland Park is located within Feidong County, Hefei City, Anhui Province. The planned area covers Liangyuan Town, Yangdian Township, and Paimao Hui-Man Autonomous Township. The total planned area is 664.24 hectares, including 380.91 hectares of wetland, accounting for a wetland ratio of 57.35%.

The wetlands within the wetland park are divided into three types: marsh wetlands, river wetlands, and artificial wetlands; and three forms: herbaceous marshes, seasonal rivers, and reservoir-pond wetlands.

The wetland is home to 331 species of vascular plants from 241 genera and 86 families; among them, the nationally protected Class I plant, wild soybean, can be found. The diverse vegetation communities provide an excellent habitat for the animals living in the wetland.

Around Guanwan Reservoir, a total of 107 bird species from 31 families and 14 orders have been recorded, including the nationally protected Class II species, the Tundra Swan, and 25 locally protected bird species in Anhui Province, such as the Great Cormorant, Great Egret, and Little Egret; there are 31 fish species from 27 genera and 9 families across 5 orders; 9 amphibian species from 4 families and 1 order; 7 reptile species from 3 families and 2 orders, among which the Chinese Softshell Turtle is listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List.
