Introduction The Lao Mountain Provincial Nature Reserve in Anhui Province is located in the southeastern part of Guichi District, adjacent to Qingyang, Shitai, and the Jiuhua Mountain Scenic Area. The reserve consists of contiguous mountainous areas from 11 administrative villages across three townships—Liujie, Tangxi, and Meicun—covering a total area of 26,876 hectares, including a core zone of 8,000 hectares, a buffer zone of 6,365 hectares, and an experimental zone of 12,511 hectares.

The reserve is part of the mountainous region of southern Anhui and forms a continuous area with Jiuhua Mountain. The elevations generally range from 300 to 1,156 meters, featuring over fifty peaks, four of which exceed 1,000 meters in height. The highest peak, Lao Mountain, stands at 1,156 meters. The area enjoys favorable climatic conditions and fertile land, exhibiting typical subtropical plant community characteristics, with abundant flora and fauna resources. There are 1,557 species of seed plants in the reserve, including 27 rare and endangered species protected at the national and provincial levels, such as the ginkgo, fragrant fruit tree, Davidia involucrata, Litsea auriculata, golden larch, wingceltis, Pterocarya stenoptera, and silverbell tree.
