Breathtaking Lakeside Park Lit Up at Night — A New Romantic Landmark for Qixi Festival

To enhance the nighttime urban scenery of the old town, the Taichung City Government has launched the Taichung Park Light Environment Revitalization Project. This includes lighting up the lakeside areas around Sun-Moon Lake, the Lake Center Pavilion, fountains, Zhongzheng Bridge, and Zhongshan Bridge, decorating them with various LED lights in red, yellow, blue, green, and more, creating a splendid ambiance. The project is currently underway and will be completed by mid-July. The lights will be turned on for Qixi Valentine’s Day, allowing visitors to enjoy the century-old charm of Taichung Park along with its romantic nighttime scenery.

The light environment revitalization project involves lighting and lamp arrangement in multiple key areas, as well as improving brightness balance across park facilities. For the key scenic spot, the Lake Center Pavilion, about 60 LED strip lights and 16 downlight spotlights have been installed under the existing fixtures along the eaves drip line on the exterior. Inside the pavilion, approximately 24 floodlights have been set up—all installed in a way that preserves the original historic architectural structure. Viewed from afar at night, it resembles a magnificent palace standing in the lake.

In addition, the lighting design for Sun-Moon Lake enhances the sense of layering through special lighting changes, using water features and night scenes. Around 30 LED underwater lights have been installed at the bottom of the lake, with bright red lights as the main hue, complemented by deep blue and leaf green. An automated smart control system adjusts the projection colors of the lights over time and in sync with the fountain, ensuring the fountain remains visible at night and showcasing the beauty of its dancing waters.

For the red Japanese-style wooden Zhongshan Bridge, russet-colored strip lights have been installed in the original fixture grooves to illuminate the bridge deck, while orange-yellow strip lights wash upward to highlight the walls. On both sides at the center underside of the bridge, spotlights have been installed to brighten the red structures beneath the walls. Meanwhile, the Chinese-style brick arch Zhongzheng Bridge has had its original round fixtures removed, with burnt-yellow strip lights installed within the structure instead; two spotlights have also been placed on each side of the arched bridge.

The lakeside walking path, essential for lake tours, is surrounded by dim yellow lighting. This includes short column lights in the lotus pond area, low-column ring lights along the lakeside path, single-side glowing kickplate lights along the pathway, landscape tall lamps, ground recessed lights, and tree-shadow-effect and plant照明投树灯 (tree-projecting lights) that create an inviting entrance ambiance.
