Taiwan, having experienced foreign colonization, has retained many unique historic buildings, some of which remain well-preserved and have not faded with time. The former Tainan Sewage Treatment Plant in Tainan City, with nearly a century of history, witnessed the development of sanitary engineering modernization during the Japanese colonial period. Due to its highly distinctive architectural and spatial forms, it was designated as a county-level historic site in 2002 and was further recognized as a national historic site after review by the Ministry of the Interior in 2005. The Tainan City Government carried out a restoration project for the national historic site, and it was reopened in 2013 with a new look.
