Xiuzhemen Museum in Chizhou is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction and a patriotic education base.

The Xiuzhemen Museum in Chizhou was opened in September 2006. It is a well-managed private museum with a rich collection of over 20,000 cultural relics. The museum mainly displays regional architectural carving art with themes of wood carvings, stone carvings, and brick carvings, as well as thematic exhibits on regional history and culture such as the Zhao Ming culture and Nuo culture, along with porcelain, calligraphy and paintings, embroidery, jade artifacts, and other items. These exhibits reflect various aspects of ancient people’s living environment, aesthetic tastes, and ethical education.

The construction of Xiuzhemen Museum is divided into two phases. The first phase features a basic exhibition layout: the first floor houses the Stone Carving Art Exhibition Hall, the second floor the Wood Carving Art Exhibition Hall, the third floor the Ancient Residential Architecture Exhibition Hall, the fourth floor the Chizhou Culture Exhibition Hall, and the fifth floor displays Nuo opera and historical culture related to Prince Zhao Ming.

The city gate square features eight scenic spots: Famous Mandarin Fish in the Pool, Water Circles the Spring City, Sunset on the Ancient Road, Scenery in a Painting, Apricot Rain in Jiangnan, Beauty by the Bridge, Scenic West Corridor, and City Wall Ruins. Relief walls inside depict the bustling scene outside Xiuzhemen in the past. The main structure of the second-phase expansion project has been completed. The total planned area of the museum site is 12,000 square meters, covering 8 mu of land. Centered around the Xiuzhemen gate tower, the city wall has been extended southward by more than 100 meters, forming a majestic ancient city wall landscape.

The expansion has added nearly 9,000 square meters of exhibition space, introducing thematic exhibitions showcasing Chizhou’s regional culture, such as the “Apricot Blossom Village Liquor Culture and Utensils Exhibition,” “Chizhou Nuo Culture Exhibition,” and “Prince Zhao Ming Divine Exhibition.” These exhibitions vividly recreate the former prosperity of ancient Chizhou through Ming and Qing architectural styles.
