The Ancestral Hall of the Zhang Clan in Yucun is a cultural relic protection unit of Anhui Province.

The Ancestral Hall of the Zhang Clan is located in Yucun Village, originally part of Jiefang Township, Guichi District, Chizhou City.

The Ancestral Hall of the Zhang Clan, also known as the Zhongde Ancestral Hall, is one of the four major family names in ancient Guichi — “Du, Li, Jiang, and Zhang.” According to the "Genealogy of the Zhang Clan," the Zhangs were descendants of the Yan Emperor and Shennong, originating from Lieshan in Shanxi. The Zhang family came from a lineage of officials and scholars, producing notable figures throughout the dynasties. Among them were Zhang Han, a great general of the Qin Dynasty; Zhang Zhi, General of Badong, and Zhang Gan, Imperial Censor of the Han Dynasty; Zhang Qiao, King of Qin, Zhang Ping, Minister of War, and Zhang Zhan, Middle Official of the Jin Dynasty; Zhang Daogai, Prefect of Guangping in the Southern Qi Dynasty, and Zhang Zhaoda, Minister of Works of the Chen Dynasty; Zhang Ji of the Tang Dynasty, Prefect of Jianzhou, and others.

The Ancestral Hall of the Zhang Clan is adorned with wood carvings and stone engravings. Every element — from the architraves, flat disk brackets, struts, spandrels, beam supports, ridge protectors, latticed windows, to the stone bases of the pillars — is exquisitely carved. In terms of decorative themes, the coffered beams around the entrance hall and the caisson ceiling are intricately carved with dragon motifs, featuring designs such as “two dragons playing with a pearl,” “five sons passing the imperial exams,” and “successively ranking first in all three levels of the imperial examinations.” The architraves depict historical scenes — officials, soldiers, attendants, landscapes, arched bridges, pavilions, and towers — all arranged in distinct layers and brimming with vitality. The carving techniques include both relief and openwork, showcasing the exceptional craftsmanship of the time. With its unique architectural layout, the hall is a gem in the treasury of regional architecture and stands out as an outstanding example among local ancestral halls.
