The Huashan Mysterious Grottoes is a national scenic area and a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.

The Huashan Mysterious Grottoes Scenic Area, originally known as the "Ancient Huizhou Grottoes Cluster," is situated along both banks of the Xin'an River between Huangdun in Tunxi (the central urban area of Huangshan City, Anhui Province) and Xiong Village in She County. Linked by the Xin'an River, it connects the Huashan and Xiong Village scenic zones, forming a dumbbell-shaped national 4A-level scenic spot. It is an extension of the Huangshan Mountain Range, situated between 29°44′N and 29°46′N. This comprehensive destination brings together a rich collection of natural and cultural landscapes, including green mountains, clear waters, pastoral scenery, millennia-old mysterious grottoes, peculiar peaks and rocks, cliff inscriptions, caves, temples, and ancient architecture. It offers a high-quality, diverse experience suitable for visitors of all interests.

— The Huashan Mysterious Grottoes Scenic Area is located at the border between Tunxi District and She County within Huangshan City, Anhui Province. As an extension of the Huangshan Mountain Range, it lies between 29°44′N and 29°46′N. The scenic area is 446 km from Shanghai, 240 km from Hangzhou, and 373 km from Nanjing.

The scenic area is situated along both banks of the Xin'an River between Huangdun in Tunxi (the central urban area of Huangshan City) and Xiong Village in She County. Linked by the Xin'an River, it connects the Huashan and Xiong Village scenic zones, forming a dumbbell-shaped scenic area. It is 12 km from the city’s central train station and 20 km from the airport, covering a total planned area of 81 square kilometers.

The Huashan Mysterious Grottoes Scenic Area boasts extremely rich tourism resources. It combines natural and cultural attractions such as green mountains, clear waters, pastoral views, millennia-old mysterious grottoes, peculiar peaks and rocks, cliff inscriptions, caves, temples, and ancient buildings. This comprehensive destination offers a high-quality, diverse experience suitable for visitors of all interests.

The area is branded by its distinctive grottoes. Currently, 36 explored grottoes showcase grand, mysterious, and ingeniously crafted cave landscapes that are truly rare across China. Their magnificent scale, spectacular presence, and unique features are unparalleled domestically and leave visitors in awe—truly a marvel of China. As for when these caves were created, how they formed, where millions of cubic meters of stone materials went, and how they were quarried and transported—all remain unsolved mysteries to this day.

In 2011, leisure tourism destinations in Tunxi District such as the Huashan Mysterious Grottoes and Huangshan Drunk Spring Hot Springs attracted batches of tourists seeking to escape the heat and relax, thanks to their “cooling” appeal. A variety of “cooling tour” programs also sprang up in Tunxi. Direct tourist buses to Tunxi were successively launched from cities like Shanghai and Hangzhou.
