Tunxi Zhenhai Bridge

Zhenhai Bridge is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

Zhenhai Bridge is located at the western exit of Tunxi Old Street in Tunxi District, Huangshan City.

Also known as the Old Great Bridge, it was first built in the 15th year of the Jiajing reign during the Ming Dynasty (1536), renovated in the 15th year of the Kangxi reign of the Qing Dynasty (1676), and was destroyed by floods again in the 34th year of the Kangxi reign (1695). It was rebuilt once more in the 38th year of the Kangxi reign (1699) and served as a vital transportation hub connecting Tunxi Old Street and Liyang Ancient Town. Zhenhai Bridge is 133 meters long and 15 meters wide, featuring a six-pier, seven-arch stone structure. The bridge deck and railings are paved with tea garden bluestone. The upper part consists of equal-section solid spandrel stone arches, while the lower part is built with mortar-bound strip stones forming a gravity-type pier and abutment. The bridge piers are in the shape of an isosceles triangle, with cutwaters that curl upwards to resemble ship prows. Zhenhai Bridge is an important architectural symbol of Tunxi’s history and is one of the rare large-scale Ming Dynasty stone arch bridges in Anhui Province, boasting significant historical, cultural, and scientific value.

On October 7, 2019, Tunxi Zhenhai Bridge was included in the eighth batch of National Key Cultural Relics Protection Units.

Protected area: 5 meters outward from the main body of the bridge on the east, south, west, and north sides.

Construction control zone: 15 meters outward from the protected area on the east, west, south, and north sides.
