Huashan Grottoes Cluster

The Huashan Grottoes Cluster is a cultural relic protection unit of Anhui Province.

The Huashan Grottoes Cluster is located on the northeastern side of the Huashan Scenic Area in Tunguang Town, Tunxi District, Huangshan City.

The Huashan Mystery Caves are currently the largest, most mysterious, and most expansive ancient grotto site discovered in China. Strangely, despite the massive scale of the construction of the Huashan Mystery Caves, there are no historical written records about them. On October 28, 2004, they were listed as a provincial-level cultural relic protection unit by Anhui Province.

Tunguang Town: Tunguang Town is situated at the eastern gateway of Tunxi, the central urban area of Huangshan City. It governs 17 village committees, has a current population of 18,000, and covers an area of 42 square kilometers. The municipal Party committee and government buildings, the city’s long-distance bus station, and the train station are all located within the town. National Highway 205, the Wan-Gan Railway, and the picturesque Xin’an River run through the town. Dominating the town are Huangshan City’s largest modern leisure plaza—Century Plaza, its most advanced sports facilities—the Municipal Stadium, and its modern broadcasting and television facilities—the Municipal Radio and Television Center. Together with Gufen Avenue, they form a magnificent recent urban development landscape of Huangshan City.
