Hundred Birds Pavilion

Hundred Birds Pavilion is a cultural relic protection unit of Huangshan City.

Hundred Birds Pavilion is located in Yanghu Town, Tunxi District, dating back to the Ming Dynasty.

The pavilion base covers an area of 40 square meters and is built with a brick-and-wood structure. Legend has it that it was constructed in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties by the eunuch faction of Yanshan Mountain to welcome Wei Zhongxian to Huizhou. Later, after Wei Zhongxian was executed, they were forced to transform the pavilion into a temple overnight, placing a statue of Guan Yu inside and hanging a plaque inscribed with the “Han’s Might Extends Far and Guards the Town” (汉威远镇), which was made up of feathers from hundreds of birds. This is how the pavilion got its name.

Yanghu Town: Originally named Yanghu (literally “Foreign Lake”), the town’s name is recorded in the Huizhou Prefecture Annals as follows: “Yanghu lies flat along the stream; when spring floods converge, it becomes vast like a lake—thus the name.” In the spring of 1992, the township was upgraded to a formal town.　

Yanghu Town is located south of Huangshan City’s central urban area, separated only by a river from the downtown core. It borders She County to the east, Xiuning to the south, Shuishi River to the west, and the Xin’an River to the north. Four major bridges—the Xin’an, Shuishi, Guangyu, and Huangkou—connect the north and south, while the Hangzhou–Huangshan Expressway runs east-west. Moreover, the only two exits within Tunxi District are both situated in Yanghu.
