The village is named after the Geng surname and lies to the northwest of Ma'anshan within the township. It is an ancient settlement with a history of seven or eight hundred years.

The founding ancestor, Geng Nanbao, was originally a military governor in Shaanxi during the Northern Song Dynasty. After the Jingkang Incident, he relocated southward with the imperial court to protect Emperor Gaozong and chose to settle here. Due to his loyalty and service, many descendants of the Geng family were granted titles and official positions by the Song and Ming courts. They grew powerful and prosperous, with their lineage flourishing and becoming a leading local gentry clan. During the Ming and Qing dynasties, the village was known as the “Village of Ten Thousand Households,” with no other surnames present.

Nestled among green trees and swaying bamboo shadows, rows of simple yet elegant houses stand crisscrossed and closely packed. Deep lanes and tall courtyards feature apricot blossoms peering out and the fragrance of orchids and osmanthus lingering in the air—everything appears harmonious and natural. Having endured the vicissitudes of time and changes of the world, the two most well-preserved and intact residences in the village are the Ge-Liu Houses.
