The former residence of martyrs He Xiaoqing and He Hong is situated at No. 5 Junxing Lane, Beicun, Shawan Town, Panyu District, Guangzhou. It is a traditional three-bay, two-corridor Cantonese-style residence with a brick-and-wood structure and grey-brick walls, covering a total area of approximately 216.4 square meters. He Xiaoqing and He Hong were sisters and both members of the Chinese Communist Party. During the War of Resistance against Japan, they actively participated in the anti-Japanese salvation movement and were arrested and killed by the enemy in 1942 and 1945, respectively. As the former home of these two martyrs, the building serves as a memorial site for later generations to honor their sacrifice and promote patriotism, and stands as one of the testimonies to China’s revolutionary struggle during the Anti-Japanese War.

He Xiaoqing, also written as “He Xiaoqing,” was originally named He Xueqing. She was born on February 9, 1921 (the second day of the first lunar month) in Beicun, Shawan, Panyu. In late 1936, through the introduction of her second elder sister He Xuepiao, she joined the Youth Troupe of the Guangzhou Artists Association, which was led by the underground Communist Party of Guangdong, thus embarking on the path of revolution. In the summer of 1938, He Xiaoqing was assigned to work in the Social Education Experimental Zone in Dali, Nanhai, where she served as a staff member responsible for the exhibition room and women’s night school. After the fall of Guangzhou on October 21, 1938, following instructions from Lin Qiongyun of the CCP Nan-Shun Working Committee, she and over ten other members retreated to the Xijiang region, traveling via Xinxing County to Luoding. In November 1938, she secretly pledged her allegiance to the Party in Luocheng. In January 1939, she was transferred with the 147th Team of the Guangdong Provincial Mobilization Committee’s Wartime Work Team to Shaoguan, where she attended the third CCP Guangdong Provincial Committee Party Members’ Training Class. She was then dispatched to the HanGuang area of Yingde County (now Yingde City) to carry out underground work, and was later reassigned to the Political Brigade of the Political Department of the Kuomintang’s 12th Army Group. After the summer training session in 1940, she was sent to the Propaganda Team of the 151st Division of the 12th Army Group in the 7th War Zone of the Kuomintang to conduct anti-Japanese propaganda among soldiers. In late July 1941, while staying at a guesthouse in Hengyang, Hunan, en route to Guilin, she was tracked and arrested by Kuomintang secret agents. She was executed in Shaoguan, Guangdong in June 1942.
