Site of the Confucian City

The Site of the Confucian City is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Anhui Province.

The Site of the Confucian City is located at the junction of Longkou Village in Wanhe Farm, Anqing City, Tongfu Village (Huangyatou) in Wanhe Township, Huaining County, and Laogou Group (formerly Laogou Village in Jindi Township) in Jiuhua Village, Saikou Town, Wangjiang County—three areas in total—with the majority situated in Longkou Village.

Located in Longkou Village, Wanhe Farm, Anqing City, the site currently covers an area of about 15,000 square meters. The lower part of the stratigraphic accumulation at the site belongs to the Neolithic cultural layer, where 11 earthen pit vertical shaft tombs as well as ash pits and postholes have been discovered. Artifacts unearthed include pottery, jade ware, and stone tools, with the basic pottery assemblage consisting of ding (tripod cauldrons), dou (stemmed bowls), and hu (jars), along with a notable number of painted pottery pieces. The cultural nature of the Site of the Confucian City is attributed to the Xuejiagang culture, dating to the equivalent of the second phase of the Xuejiagang site. Its excavation has provided new data for the study of the Xuejiagang culture.
