Is your impression of Taitung’s Beinan Boulevard limited to the straight road stretching toward the Central Mountain Range and the S-shaped Heaven’s Road?Few people know that from this hidden viewpoint at “Daguanting” observation deck, you can fully admire 175 hectares of rice paddies.The vast, boundless expanse instantly refreshes the mind and lifts the spirit—even on rainy days, it’s a breathtaking sight.

“Locals call this spot the ‘Amazing Corner’ because no matter how you shoot it, it’s always beautiful!” said Lai Qingxiang, a veteran tour guide at 60. While the 2-kilometer-long Beinan Boulevard is the most visited area, Daguanting is actually the best place to appreciate the “cultural landscape” of the 175 hectares of farmland.Following the “Floating Irrigation Channel” (浮圳), an artificial waterway built in 1925 during the Japanese colonial period under the direction of the Governor-General’s Office via the local water conservancy association, you’ll reach the highest point—“Daguanting.” It stands 6 meters above the ground. Thanks to active communication between the local government and farmers, the area has been preserved without power poles or farmhouses, creating a uniquely beautiful view that is truly astonishing from Daguanting.

The over 1,100-meter-long Floating Irrigation Channel is replenished by heavy rains, accompanied by the sound of flowing water. The cultural landscape of Beinan Boulevard and Heaven’s Road stretching out before your eyes is simply gorgeous. You won’t feel like you’ve wasted a single afternoon here.

※ By June, the rice paddies in Chishang District gradually turn golden yellow. By mid-June, they’re expected to become a vast expanse of golden hues. By then, Beinan Boulevard and Heaven’s Road will take on another kind of charm.
