Ancient Trenches of Wankou

The ancient trenches of Wankou are a cultural heritage site protected by Anqing City.

The ancient trenches of Wankou are located at T’arling on Shankouzhen Village, Shankou Township, Daguan District, dating back to the Qing Dynasty.

On November 30, 2010, the ancient trenches of Wankou were designated as part of the fourth batch of municipal-level cultural heritage protection units in Anqing City.

Shankou Township: The township is named after Shankouzhen within its territory, historically known as Wankou. It is located in the western suburbs of Anqing City, 12 kilometers from National Highway 206. To the east, it borders Shimen Lake and is adjacent to Shili Township; to the south, it faces Wanhe Town across the Wanhe River; to the west, it neighbors Hongpu Township; and to the north, it connects with Yueshan Town. The area features low mountainous and hilly terrain. The township covers an area of 55.5 square kilometers, with 4,869 mu of arable land, a total population of 11,700, and administers 6 administrative villages, 1 neighborhood committee, and 101 villager groups.
