Former Residence and Tomb of Yan Fengying

The former residence and tomb of Yan Fengying are designated as a cultural relic protection unit of Anhui Province.

The former residence and tomb of Yan Fengying are located in Yixiu District and Daguan District, Anqing City, dating back to 1919 and 1986 respectively.

The former residence was built in 1919 when Yan Fengying’s grandfather, a businessman from Anqing, relocated the entire family to Chen Village in Luoling Town, Yixiu District (now Anqing City). In the heart of the village, they built a two-courtyard, single-family house made of blue bricks and tiles. “Back then, it was considered the best house around.” Yan Fengying spent her childhood in Luoling. The first courtyard served as the main hall, filled with photographs of Yan Fengying during her performing years. Within just half an hour of strolling through, visitors can get a glimpse of her remarkable acting career. The local cultural station also installed a television in the patio, allowing tourists to enjoy Yan Fengying’s delicate and expressive singing voice while exploring the site.

In 2012, the former residence and tomb of Yan Fengying were announced as part of the seventh batch of provincial-level cultural relic protection units by the People’s Government of Anhui Province.

(1) Former Residence of Yan Fengying.

Protective boundary: 10 meters to the east and west, 5 meters to the north, and 15 meters to the south beyond the structure itself.

Construction control zone: 20 meters to the east and west, 10 meters to the north, and 50 meters to the south beyond the protective boundary.

(2) Tomb of Yan Fengying.

Protective boundary: 5 meters to the east, south, west, and north beyond the structure itself.

Construction control zone: 40 meters to the east, south, west, and north beyond the protective boundary.

Yan Fengying (1930–1968) was a renowned Huangmei opera performer. Originally named Yan Hongliu, she was born into a poor family in Luojialing, Tongcheng County. At the age of 12, she apprenticed under Yan Yungao from Tongcheng to learn Huangmei opera and soon began performing in amateur troupes. Due to opposition from her family and clan, Yan Fengying left home, joined a professional opera troupe, and adopted the stage name Fengying. Later, she studied under veteran performer Ding Laoliu. Her early performances in plays such as “He’s Wife Advises Her Sister-in-Law” and “Picking Pigweed” were highly praised by audiences, and her portrayal of Liu Fengying in “The Kitchen Knife Chronicle” was also a success. … More details about Yan Fengying ++
