I wonder if you’ve heard of the Harry Potter magic academy in Changhua?
I’d been wanting to visit ever since a friend recommended it, and in April this year, I finally got the chance to go with my family. Though it’s quite small, it’s a great place for families to explore together.
The ‘Taiwan Yogurt Biscuit Academy’ is located in the small town of Xianxi, Changhua. Hearing that such a popular attraction was tucked away in such an obscure township was hard to believe. But thanks to this magical academy, even this little corner of Changhua has flourished. Parking nearby, you can see the fairy-tale castle from afar, with its uniquely jagged walls. The yogurt biscuit academy offers free entry. Inside, not only are there delicious biscuits for sale, but visitors can also enjoy DIY experiences and guided tours explaining how the biscuits are made. Near the entrance and exit, there’s a cute building that houses the restrooms, featuring owl-shaped archways that add even more Harry Potter charm. Every holiday, it gets packed with people. Upon entering the magic academy, there’s a lounge area where many visitors sit, eat biscuits, and chat. On holidays, they even occasionally invite bands to perform, giving guests a treat for both the eyes and taste buds, along with complimentary coffee. There are also drinks and snacks for sale, and kids are already having fun at the little play area near the vending section. The Magic Biscuit Academy is divided into two main sections: the left side is the Magic Biscuit Factory, and the right side is the Hall of the Magic Kingdom (also the sales area). Following the visiting route, we started on the left. The entrance is creatively designed with stacks of magic books—visitors can’t help but take photos here. Inside, you’ll learn about the biscuit-making process, which is both educational and engaging, especially with the walls covered in illustrated explanations that make reading fun. There are also giant chocolate treats and baking molds. The large kitchen experience area is a popular photo spot, and putting on a chef’s hat only adds to the fun. In the Packaging Magic Show area, machines and staff turn flour and ingredients into delicious biscuits. Unfortunately, due to it being a holiday, the machines and staff weren’t there that day—but seeing them in action while explaining the process to kids would have made it even more meaningful.
In the past, things weren’t as developed, and everything was handmade using molds to make big biscuits. In earlier times, marrying off a daughter was a grand affair, and families would give big biscuits as gifts to relatives and friends to save face. Although some still do this today, giving ten kilograms is just too much.
There are also DIY experience activities, which are booked online. On the day we visited, there were plenty of DIY participants, but we arrived just as preparations were underway, so we missed seeing the fun. After visiting the Magic Biscuit Factory, you’ll reach the sales area, which actually had more visitors than the lounge at the entrance. Everyone was rushing to buy the delicious biscuits. There are often special deals, and visitors can’t help but take a few packs home. There are also lots of photo spots and props, though it can be tricky to get a good shot with so many people around.
Taiwan Yogurt Biscuit Academy may be small, but it’s a fantastic place for photos, shopping, and even DIY biscuit experiences. It’s perfect for bringing your little ones to explore this magical Harry Potter-inspired world.
