Tongling Phoenix Mountain is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction and a cultural tourism destination.

The Phoenix Mountain Scenic Area in Tongling, Anhui, is located to the southeast of Tongling and is the most distinctive scenic spot in the city. Known as the landing place of the mythical phoenix, Phoenix Mountain is regarded as a sacred, auspicious, and noble land filled with many wondrous and touching legends. The mountain's landscape resembles the shape of a phoenix and is composed of several peaks including Hengshan, Mianshan, Lingfengshan, Tanshan, and Jinshan. The area boasts beautiful mountains and clear waters, with picturesque scenery, making it a well-known tourist destination in Tongling. As early as the Jingtai era of the Ming Dynasty, the poet Zhou Duo wrote sixteen poems in the “Phoenix Eight Scenes” series, including lines such as “Beyond the cottage the mountains pierce the sky, / A lone well by the rocks gathers sweet spring water nigh; / After a thousand years the phoenix drank here still, / Its traces remain, an ageless legend to thrill,” praising the mountain. In 1998, the Phoenix Mountain Scenic Area was designated as a provincial-level scenic spot, and it is now a national AAAA-level tourist attraction. In 2000, it was named the “Hometown of Chinese Medicinal Peony” by the State Forestry Administration and the China Flower Association. It is the core production area of Fengdan, Tongling’s first national geographical indication product, and also a nationally renowned viewing base for southern Chinese peonies. In 2013, it was awarded the title of “China’s Beautiful Countryside” by the Ministry of Agriculture, and in August 2015, Fenghuangshan Village was recognized as one of the first “Model Villages for Rural Tourism in China” by the National Tourism Administration. In 2015, it was also named one of the Best Slow Life Rural Tourism Resort Areas in the Yangtze River Delta.

Building on its status as a national AAAA-level scenic area, Phoenix Mountain is driving comprehensive development through the creation of iconic, specialty tourism projects. This aims to establish the area as a wide-reaching, market-influential integrated tourism destination that combines cultural sightseeing, cultural experience, health and wellness, and ecological leisure.
