Tongling Datong is a cultural tourism attraction.

Introduction Datong, located at the border of the ancient states of Wu and Chu, belonged to Wu during the Three Kingdoms period and is a millennia-old ancient town in the south of the Yangtze River. Blessed with a landscape that combines both mountain and water views, Datong lies along the Yangtze River, borders the Qingtong River, neighbors Tianmu Lake, and is backed by Mount Changlong. Its unique geographical location endowed it with a glorious history. Today, it is a historical and cultural reserve in Anhui Province, rich in cultural heritage, including over twenty cultural sites such as Dashige (the First Gate of Jiuhua Mountain), the Heavenly Official Mansion, St. Andrew’s Church, the Catholic Church, and its bell tower. Numerous historical figures such as Zhu Yuanzhang, Hong Xiuquan, and Sun Yat-sen, as well as many poets and scholars, once stayed here, composed poetry, and left behind countless verses. Ming and Qing architectural features such as fireproof gables, upturned eaves, carved window frames, and riverside stilted houses are still clearly visible. Local delicacies such as oil-sugar steamed cake, glutinous rice dumplings, oven-baked crisp cakes, fried hairy tofu, Datong tea snacks, and small-ground sesame oil have long been celebrated. Today’s Datong is even more vibrant, nestled between river and lake with beautiful scenery. It serves as the southwestern gateway to Tongling and is also a key passage to the “Two Mountains and One Lake” scenic area.
