Tongling County First Party Congress Memorial Hall

Phoenix Mountain boasts not only picturesque scenery and numerous historical sites but also a glorious history of revolutionary struggle. During the War of Resistance Against Japan, the people of Tongling, under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, waged intense revolutionary battles here. The first Party congress of the Tongling County Committee of the CPC was held in Zhoushi Primary School in Xinyuling, within the territory of Phoenix Mountain.

In July 1939, the Tongling County Committee held the county’s first Party congress at Zhoushi Primary School in Xinyu, Phoenix Mountain. The original site was destroyed by Japanese bombing, leaving only a gate tower. In 2011, to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China and the 80th anniversary of the establishment of the Tongling Party organization, the county committee (now Yi’an District Committee) and county government (now Yi’an District Government) decided to build the First Congress Memorial Hall near the original site, within the Phoenix Mountain scenic area, reconstructing the structure based on the original layout of Zhoushi Primary School.

The memorial hall covers an area of 10 mu (approximately 0.67 hectares), with an investment of over 2 million yuan. The exhibition area is divided into four sections: Spark Igniting the Prairie, Flames of Anti-Japanese War, Seizing Victory, and Creating Brilliance. With detailed materials and rich historical facts, it recreates the scene of the congress, outlines the history of the establishment, development, and growth of the CPC in the Tongling region, and showcases the glorious chapters written by the people of Tongling in the socialist revolution and construction, especially during the journey of reform and opening up.
