Memorial Hall of Japan’s Surrender

The Memorial Hall of Japan’s Surrender is a classic red tourism attraction and a patriotic education base.

On August 15, 1945, the Japanese imperialism announced unconditional surrender after its defeat. Songdian Village in Changxin Township, Fuyang (now Zhongqiu Village, Shouxiang Town, Fuyang City) was designated as the sole site for the surrender of Japanese troops stationed in Zhejiang. In February 1998, it was proclaimed a Zhejiang Provincial Patriotic Education Base by the Zhejiang Provincial Committee for Spiritual Civilization Construction. In October 2005, it was named a National Patriotic Education Demonstration Base by the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee.

On September 4 of the same year, Chinese surrender representatives, including Lieutenant General Han Deqin, Deputy Commander of the Third War Zone and Director of the Forward Command Post, accepted the surrender from Japanese representatives such as Colonel Mitsuharu Michizawa, Chief of Staff of the 133rd Division of the Japanese Army in Zhejiang. The Japanese side submitted documents at the ceremony, including certificates, station lists, rosters of officers and soldiers, and weapon inventories. As the site of this significant historical event, it has been forever recorded in the annals of Zhejiang’s anti-Japanese war history. In September 1995, the People's Government of Fuyang City allocated funds to renovate the site and opened it to the public.
