Longmen Architectural Complex

The Longmen Architectural Complex is a Zhejiang Provincial Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

The Longmen Architectural Complex is located in Longmen Town, Fuyang District, Hangzhou, dating from the Ming Dynasty to the Republic of China period.

Shanle Hall is located in Longmen Village No. 5, Longmen Town, and was built during the Republic of China era. It faces southwest to northeast. Constructed with a brick-and-wood structure, it features a double-sloped flush gable roof and a Guanyin-dou-style wall. It is a horse-galloping-style tower gate house, consisting of a courtyard gate, front hall, patio, wing rooms, main hall, rear patio, and rear wing rooms. It covers an area of 490.05 square meters. The wooden carvings around the patio are intricate and abundant in layers. The eave columns feature round carvings of lions and narrative human figures, with “Hehe” (harmony) and auspicious animal bracket arms. There are also hanging columns beneath the eaves. The beams, brackets, and paneling around the patio are adorned with bas-relief and high-relief techniques depicting scenes such as fishing, woodcutting, farming, stories from the Three Kingdoms, warriors on horseback, birds, beasts, dragons, phoenixes, cranes, and fish. The owner named it “Shanle Hall” (Hall of Joy in Mountains and Waters), alluding to the saying “The wise find joy in water; the benevolent find joy in mountains.”

On January 13, 2017, it was announced by the People’s Government of Zhejiang Province as part of the seventh batch of Zhejiang Provincial Cultural Relics Protection Units.

Longmen Town: Located in the southern part of Fuyang City, Longmen Town covers an area of 18 square kilometers and borders towns such as Chang’an, Shangguan, and Huanshan within the city. The town has 11 administrative villages with a total population of 7,518, of which 90% live in Longmen Village, the largest settlement in the town. The town government is stationed in Longmen Village, which is the largest village in the city and named after Longmen Mountain. The area is surrounded by mountains, sloping from high in the south to low in the north, forming a small basin. Longmen Mountain rises at the southeastern edge, while Datou Mountain lies in the southwestern corner.
