Xiaoying · Jiangnan Red Lane Scenic Area is a national AAA-level tourist attraction.

No. 3, Pishi Lane, Xiaoying Subdistrict, Shangcheng District — an unassuming location that was, in fact, the birthplace of the first local Communist Party organization in our province — the Hangzhou Group of the CPC. In August 1922, Xu Meikun, then Secretary of the Shanghai Local Executive Committee and Jiangsu-Zhejiang Regional Executive Committee of the CPC, came to Hangzhou specifically to develop the Party organization. In September, the Hangzhou Group of the CPC was formally established here, marking a significant milestone in the history of the Party in Zhejiang.

To commemorate this major event in the Party’s history in our province — the founding of the Hangzhou Group of the CPC — and as a “birthday gift” to the Party on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of its founding, Shangcheng District and Xiaoying Subdistrict began meticulous preparations for the Memorial Hall of the Hangzhou Group of the CPC last November. With the attention and strong guidance of higher-level leaders and relevant departments, after going through a series of steps including scheme formulation, historical material collection, manuscript writing, and exhibition design, the construction of the memorial hall has now entered the final sprint stage before completion.

“At that time, a vividly restored Memorial Hall of the Hangzhou Group of the CPC will be presented to the public. Moreover, while visiting the memorial hall, one can also explore patriotic and revolutionary education bases such as the Former Residence of Qian Xuesen and the Memorial Hall of Chairman Mao’s Inspection of Xiaoying Lane,” said Ren Ping, Secretary of the Party Working Committee of Xiaoying Subdistrict. The subdistrict has created a unique “Red Corridor” with distinctive Xiaoying characteristics by connecting the red sites within its jurisdiction into a cohesive experience.

According to reports, the memorial hall covers a total construction area of 1,265 square meters and focuses on the history of the birth, development, and growth of the CPC (Zhejiang) organization. It is divided into four sections: “The Tide Rises in the Qiantang” mainly covers the socio-economic conditions of Hangzhou before the establishment of the Hangzhou Group of the CPC, the spread of Marxism in Hangzhou, and the rise of workers’ and peasants’ movements, displaying the social background at the time of the group’s formation; “The Spark in the Qiantang” is the core part of the entire exhibition, showcasing the establishment of Hangzhou’s Party and League organizations, the founders and members of the Hangzhou Group of the CPC, and the early activities of the Hangzhou Party organization; “The Surging Qiantang” illustrates the development of the Party in Hangzhou and Zhejiang from the establishment of the Hangzhou Group of the CPC to the liberation of Zhejiang; “The Qiantang of Today” primarily showcases the achievements in Hangzhou’s socio-economic development and Party construction under the leadership of the Municipal Party Committee since the founding of the People’s Republic of China.

Xiaoying Lane Community: Bordered by East River to the east, Middle River to the west, Jiefang Road to the south, and Qingyin Street to the north, Xiaoying Lane Community covers an area of approximately 0.3 square kilometers and is home to over 3,600 households. The area is rich in cultural heritage — No. 61, Xiaoying Lane, was the military command post of Chen Bingwen, the “Listening King” during the Taiping Rebellion, known as the Listening King’s Mansion; No. 56, Xiaoying Lane, is an exhibition hall established to commemorate Chairman Mao Zedong’s inspection of the community’s sanitation work; No. 2, Fanggu Garden, is the ancestral home of the famous Chinese scientist Qian Xuesen; and No. 3, Fanggu Garden, is the Memorial Hall of the CPC Group.
